How to add my Google Apps account to Outlook through IMAP/POP option.
Some time ago something changed in the way Google accounts connect through IMAP/POP protocols. If you are trying to add the account to an desktop mail app like Outlook or when you try to set up a send mail as, the connection will fail with incorrect password. This happens because Google considers the normal IMAP/POP authentication as being Less Secure.
Some Mail apps like Thunderbird or Mac Mail [through Google option] already use OAuth protocol, and do not have the same issue.
Make sure that you are logged in with the user that you would like to add to the mail app, scroll down to the end of the page until you will see a setting [Allow less secure apps: OFF or ON] Please make sure the setting is ON. Now we can continue to setup your Google Apps Account into your mail app.
If you do not see the setting on the Sign in and Security page, this means that you are not allowed to change the setting. If you are not the admin of the Google Apps account please contact your admin and advise him to change the settings at admin.google.com.
“Under Security -> Basic -> Settings for Less Secure Apps -> Please choose allow users to change this setting.”
For more information about the settings you will need to use, please click here Google Help Article.
Another option to sync your Email to Outlook would be to use Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook.
If you encountered any issue during the setup, please don’t hesitate to leave us a comment and we will try to assist you.
